Kerrie and Steve Ellery of Horseland Underwood would like to welcome Gary and Chester onto their team of Sponsored Riders and Horses.
Kerrie and Steve bring a wealth of knowledge and experience to the equestrian industry and to assist in contributing to the sport, they are supporting local rider and horse combinations through sponsorships. Some of you might remember that Horseland Underwood sponsored the Qld State Freestyle Dressage Championship last year.
Gary was given the option to try Horseland's range of saddles to see if he might want to ride in one. He choose the Bates Innova (with the smaller knee blocks) and after riding in it, this is what he had to say (refer to the page on the right):

Leonie Bramall is a Canadian born dressage rider/trainer and coach based in Germany. Not only has she represented her country at an Olympic level, she has produced and trained numerous horses to FEI and helped national and international riders with their horses. Leonie moved to Germany at the tender age of 18 and worked with Johann Hinnemann. Over the next 15 year, she became a major figure in Johann's stable sharing responsibilities of training horses and riders. We are fortunate to have Leonie visiting Australia and Gary and Chester took this opportunity and attended a clinic held at Windhill Dressage Stables on 25th and 26th January 2009.
This is what Gary had to say about the clinic:
"Where do I start?, Leonie is a trainer that rides every stride with you. She was quick to identify our areas of improvement and assisted by providing fundamental schooling exercises to build on our basics. I love the way she communicates with her clear descriptions, explanations and analogies. I got so much from the clinic and I will definitely be attending another clinic when she is back in Australia."

"Most of us like to stick to what we are familiar with and before I tried the Bates Innova saddle, I was a little apprehensive because it is very different to any other saddle I have ridden in.
Kerrie fitted the saddle to Chester and wow!, it fitted perfectly - no need to adjust, no need to put padding underneath - it just fitted!. We all know how tricky it is to find a saddle that fits well right from the start.
When I hopped into the saddle, my first thought was how secured I felt, I liked the idea that you can still move your legs around but I felt the security it offered.
A t the walk, I like the way Chester walked out confidently - reaching down into the contact. I could feel there was no bulkiness between my legs and seat and Chester's sides.
At the trot, I like that the saddle offered a balanced feel and I could sit down into Chester's movement.
By this time, I thought to myself - this is not bad. It fits Chester and I like the way it feels. Lets see what the saddle feels like in the canter.
Of we went into a canter - WOW! I could feel a smile reaching from ear to ear. I liked how it put me in the centre and how I was able to put my aids on effectively.
I rode up to Kerrie and Steve and commented "I like this one".
I'm not sure whether its the way the saddle fits Chester or the way the saddle has allowed me to ride more effectively or because of the Bates Elastic Girth with CAIR® that has been scientifically proven to dramatically improve your horses comfort and performance but Chester has been working better and better each ride.
I have to confess that I never thought I would ever ride in a Bates Innova but you know what, I am suitably impressed and would recommend anyone to at least have a ride in one. I love my Innova.
At the 2009 Dressage Qld Christmas party,
Chester was awarded the

Each rider with their horse had private lessons with Andreas before the masterclass and they all agreed that they came away learning something new.
